First you will need to select the type of stone and pattern you will be
using.
Step 2: Dig out and prepare area. Lay out with string & stakes. Step 3: Place out your containment edging, making sure it is level. This will save possible complications later on. Step 4: Lay out your crushed gravel base of approximately 2” - 3”. Most commonly you should use 5/8” minus, but when there are drainage concerns, use 1 1/4” minus. Level and pack down firmly either manually or mechanically. Step 5: Lay out 1” - 2” of sand. Step 6: Screed sand by using a 2 x 6 or 2 x 8 piece of wood on edge. If your containment (edging) is not smooth, or your area is wider than the board, temporarily use a pipe to use as a guide for your screen. Step 7: Install the stone Pavers without walking on the sand. Step 8: Top dress the area with sand and run a compactor vibrator over the stone & sand. Then sweep area.
